We hear so much about breaking generational curses but did you know that God gave each of our families generational blessings as well. Our God wants to put us in a position to receive old and new generational blessings.
God chose each of our families intentionally with our purpose and future in mind. Whether a generational blessing or curse, both can be used for God’s glory.
Genesis 50:20 states, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good, He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. ”
This is one of my favorite scriptures because it truly shows that our God is capable of turning anything around. No matter how bad or ugly, God will turn it around for your good and will still use it for His glory.
Our God does not allow unfeasible circumstances to keep us stuck, He allows them so we can overcome them and share the good news.
The enemy’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy whatever God has in store for you but our God’s goal is to give you a rich and satisfying life abundantly.
Yesss that’s right God wants us to be rich and prosperous as believers so we can help change this world and point back to Him about it all. Poverty, perversion, trickery, witchery, and more are not God’s plan for you or your family’s bloodline.
This is why it is so important that we as believers take the time to know and investigate what has happened within our family’s bloodline, so we can know what our God is calling us to change within our family’s name.
So don’t be afraid to approach God and ask questions like …….
What are you calling me to change God and make new within my family’s bloodline ?
What generational blessings do you want me to maintain and grow God ?
What generational curses are you calling me to break God ?
We as believers have to be confident that our God will provide generational blessings no matter what strongholds we’ve had to face. Trust and be confident that God is able to break any and every stronghold to open the way for us to receive an abundant amount of blessings.
Here are 3 Ways to Help Receive Generational Blessings :
1. Know Your Roots & Be Aware of Your Family’s History
Are you aware of where you have come from and what has occurred within your family’s bloodline ?
Deuteronomy 32:7 states, “Remember the days of long ago; think about the generations past. Ask your father, and he will inform you. Inquire of your elders, and they will tell you.”
This scripture is just one part of a song Moses left to the Israelites, full of instructions from the Lord, for them to follow after his death. This particular part of the song talks about being aware of your past and being inquisitive to learn about it.
Throughout the bible they consistently talk about observing things from generation to generation to show God’s healing power generationally. They even list out the genealogy of different tribes and families so they can track their lineage to observe and be aware of their family’s beliefs, ways of living, traditions, blessings, curses, and events that have shaped their past, present, and future.
In the same way, may we make ourselves aware and allow God to show us our past and what our ancestors dealt with mentally, physically, and spiritually so we can heal properly.
It is hard to heal from something if you don’t know the root of the problem.
For example, when you go to the doctor they always ask you to list any genetic illnesses that have occured within your family’s bloodline to better create a plan of prevention and/or healing . In that same way, we should be aware and able to list and call out different spirits and curses that exist within our family’s bloodline so we can heal.
Now I know this may be challenging based on how close you are to your family or if you even know your family, but don’t forget our Father God can reveal these things to you if you take the time to seek and ask Him.
Practical Tip : Create a T-chart that lists on one side your generational blessings and on the other side your generational curses. Make sure to put on some worship music to help with praying and ushering in the presence of the Lord. Then, when led, start off by listing what you already know that has existed from physical and mental illnesses, traumatic events, and more within your bloodline.
Then ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the spirit behind each event or other things that you may be missing. Listen and write down what the Spirit reveals.
2. Create an Action Plan to Help Break Generational Cycles
How are you managing and breaking these generational cycles within your bloodline ?
After becoming aware of the many cycles that have existed and lived through your family’s bloodline. It’s important to be intentional and make time to develop some action steps to help kill off any bad roots that can hold you back from your destiny.
James 2:17 states, “So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”
For it’s not enough for us to say that we believe, but our beliefs should line up with our actions.
For instance, I can’t say that I am believing in God for a house, if all I do is sit around and think about it. I have to pray, get up and go look for homes, find a realtor, save money, and more to truly walk in faith that it will come to pass.
Prayer is the most powerful tool that God gifted us with to help us break strongholds, bring forth miracles, and most importantly give us access to have intimate conversations with Him. This can be done by yourself, a group of holy spirit filled friends, and with a deliverance or prayer team that you trust.
Next, try going back to your T-chart with your generational curses and blessings and then create an action plan on how to break each generational curse to help get to each generational blessing. I would not do this all at once ( because this stuff is a lot ) but it's a great tool to use to help move you in the direction of freedom from these toxic cycles.
For instance, if something financial, yes create prayers for generational wealth but don’t forget to add paying off your debt, investing in stocks, creating ownership, and more. Make sure the steps are specific to each action to better help break away all financial strongholds within your family’s bloodline.
3. Be Obedient to Build a Legacy for Generational Blessings
Are you being obedient to what God is calling you to so you can leave a legacy of generational blessings ?
In Romans 5: 18-19, it states : “Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.”
Whew !! This passage of scripture alone speaks volumes !!! Jesus is a perfect example of the many blessings one can receive generationally, when you choose to be obedient to God’s plan for your life.
He came down and sacrificed His life so we can live without sin and wiped away all sin for others before him and after so we can have a second chance at life. His sacrifice opened the gateway for us to live in abundance and receive many blessings.
We all have a legacy to leave behind on this Earth, but it's up to us on what kind of legacy we want to leave.
It’s crazy to think that God will bless your whole family generationally and that many can and will be blessed due to your obedience but it's possible. It just takes a heart that's surrendered to God and faith to do what it takes to make change happen.
Let this be a reminder that this life is bigger than you !
Let’s just let that sync in.
Get a journal, ask the Holy Spirit these questions, and write down what He reveals :
What are you calling me to do God ?
What legacy do you want me to leave behind God ?
What changes do I need to make to make the legacy come alive ?
Now read this prayer for generational blessings below :
Father God thank you for turning everything around that the enemy intended to use to harm me for my good.
Father God thank you for giving me authority to break and kill off every generational curse and cycle in my life.
Father God please continue to equip me and empower me to fight for change spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Father God please continue to produce change in me, change in my bloodline, and change in my surroundings and those around me.
I declare that toxic cycles do not live in this temple anymore.
I choose to maintain old and receive new generational blessings to help bring change on this Earth.
I choose to build generational wealth and leave a legacy that reflects the power of being obedient to Jesus Christ.
I choose to break and replace every generational curse with a new blessing by living in you and through you.
Amen.
